I'm a tech enthusiast who does software development professionally, tinkers with gadgets, and has a myriad of hobbies to keep learning and stay entertained.

Work tends to land somewhere between application code, infrastructure, and the glue that keeps systems moving.

  • Code: I write code in Python and Go most days, and Terraform for infrastructure.
  • Focus: I tend to focus on platform architecture and development, automation, practical tooling, and making things easier to run.

Most of my hobbies are just different ways to keep learning by doing.

  • Photography: I really enjoy the challenge of taking a good photo, including aerial photography, night skylines, and fireworks.
  • Tech: I'm a tech enthusiast through and through and always adding gadgets to my repertoire.
  • 3D Printing: I'm a very hands-on learner and love to build things. 3D printing is fun because you get to see something go from a computer to something you can hold.
  • Amateur Radio: I hold an Extra Class license. While I do more listening than transmitting these days, I like everything from standard voice over 2m to digital modes like APRS and FT8. It's an exciting hobby, and I need to dedicate more time to it.
  • Home Automation: Home Assistant is a fun tool to mess with, and home sensors are inexpensive nowadays. It's fun finding parts of my daily workflow I can delegate to a computer.

A few things I keep returning to, slowly and imperfectly.

  • Piano: I occasionally set some time aside to learn because I used to play saxophone and appreciate music. It is challenging and I have a way to go, but it is fun.
  • German: Much of my family roots are in Germany, and I want to learn more about the language and the country.
  • Elixir and Rust: I like learning programming languages that make me think about building software differently.
